Women-Only Events Spread Eastward

Sonya Giancobe, co-owner of Kelso Beer Company in NYC, thinks that "most women in the industry just aren't in the positions that afford them the chance to network on a regular basis".

Click here to read about a Women-Only beer event happening in New York tonight...

I sent an email to the event's co-organizer, Emily Garland, asking "Are men allowed at this event?" She wrote back promptly:

Hi James,

No, it's just for women. Thanks for checking.

Best,
Emily

For anyone that has an opinion on this, Emily can be reached at emily@tappedcraftbeer.com

  1. Why do you care about a networking event in NYC? FYI, it was quite a success, with ~90 women from the NYC beer industry showing up.

    Cheers,
    Matt

  2. I heartily support a woman's right to gather without the input of the male of the species. I conduct a women-only "Wenches, Wine & Brew" Club in our microbrew, with the support of my husband, Dean Pottle. Some men just don't 'get it'. Women are appreciating beer in an atmosphere conducive to learning!! I think women should be able to appreciate beer in whatever environment they so choose. If green Martians want to start their own beer club, kudos to them! Stop restricting women from experiencing beer as they so choose. On with it Emily!!! We support you!!! (and I do so miss NYC!!!)

  3. Misty,

I am not attempting to restrict anything, just sharing my opinion. You are trying to shut me up and criticize me for having one.

I have never encountered a craft beer gathering here in Portland where women have been made to feel less than welcome. The women who oppose my views on this matter tend to be xenophobic (more to the point, androphobic) shut-ins who generally can't relate to men on any meaningful level.

I feel that my female friends in the craft beer world can hold their own, are able to resist sexual harassment through personal strength, can put a condescending craft beertender back in their place, and are overall cool ladies. You, on the other hand, are obviously none of the above.

Despite my negativity, I truly appreciate your commenting, your trolling all over my Facebook account, and your general stupidity. It sets an example of what not to be like. Please crawl back in whatever hole you came from and never set eyes upon this blog again. You never know, you may one day have the unfortunate experience of seeing a picture of a MAN here. EEK!

    Love, Jim

PS: Don't cast any spells on me, thx.
